Rick Wagner serves as Chevron Phillips Chemical’s sustainability policy and program manager.

Rick has nearly three decades of experience in the petrochemical industry, all of which at Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) and parent company Chevron Corp. His prior roles include polyethylene sales, application and product development, as well as refinery chemist.

Recognized by the World Sustainability Congress with the 2018 Sustainability Leadership Award, Rick is the founder of CPChem’ Sustainability program and an expert in global sustainability and stakeholder engagement, in addition to other ancillary topics. Those include environmental and societal issues at the intersection between plastics, chemicals and public policy. Rick also has founded and led several industry groups dedicated to ending plastic waste or the recycling and recovery of plastics.

A common theme over Rick’s career and personal life has been listening, sharing and educating others, whether through volunteering at summer camps for kids or serving as an honored service member of the Society of Plastics Engineers.

As part of his work, Rick has become a frequent public speaker at conferences examining the business case for sustainability, stakeholder engagement and “a vision for plastics recovery.” He also is the author of “Launchpad for circularity” for Resource Recycling.

Rick received a B.S. in Chemistry from San Diego State University in 1991. He has also been awarded two U.S. patents over his career.
