New Ryton® PPS Plant

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (July 1, 2009) - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) announced the new 10,000 metric-ton-per-year Ryton® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) plant in Borger, Texas, is mechanically complete. The plant is currently in the commissioning and start-up phase, with commercial product expected to be available in the coming weeks. Built side-by-side to the existing PPS plant in Borger, the new facility expands the company's total PPS capacity at the site to 20,000 metric tons per year.

"With the start-up of the new plant, Chevron Phillips Chemical now has the broadest portfolio of PPS polymers available," said Mark Amelunke, general manager of the company's engineering polymers group. "From fibers to automotive markets to electrical/electronics, appliances, and industrial applications, we have the resins and compounds to meet our customers' needs."

Like the existing Ryton® PPS plant, much of the PPS polymer produced in Borger will be sent to Chevron Phillips Chemical's compounding facilities in LaPorte, Texas; and Kallo, Belgium where it is compounded with glass fibers and minerals to develop resins with unique performance features.

Ryton® PPS is Chevron Phillips Chemical's high performance engineering resin known for its dimensional stability and resistance to corrosive and high-temperature environments. With a thirty-plus year history, Ryton® PPS is recognized as one of the world's premier products for demanding plastic applications.  Ryton® PPS is used in injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion applications for computer components, automobile parts, industrial parts, fibers, and various electrical appliances, to name a few.
