Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP's (Chevron Phillips Chemical) Pasadena Plastics Complex is pleased to announce it will donate $78,000 to the San Jacinto College Foundation to be used for an endowment, scholarships and the purchase of equipment for the college's Process Technology Department.
Spurred by the company's aggressive growth strategy, and the growing retirement-eligible workforce, Chevron Phillips Chemical is working closely with colleges to develop local workforce talent. "A local institution producing highly skilled graduates, like San Jacinto College, is a valuable resource as the company expands," said Pasadena Plastics Complex Plant Manager Gregory Albert. "We are more than happy to work with San Jacinto College to help provide students with the tools, support and the opportunity to be successful in both the classroom and workforce."
More than half of the gift ,$40,000, will be allocated to equipment and supplies to assist in hands-on training. Key equipment to be purchased includes monitors, transmitters and software upgrades to the process control lab and distillation pilot plant.
The remaining $38,000 will be allocated to establish a Chevron Phillips Chemical endowment and to award scholarships to students studying process technology, instrumentation, and electronics technology. This gift is in addition to the $2,500 that the Chevron Phillips Chemical's Pasadena Plastics Complex awarded in 2012 for scholarships to students.
In addition, the Pasadena Plastics Complex is working closely with San Jacinto College to develop both an internship and mentoring program. With the classroom mentoring program, employees of Pasadena Plastics Complex will visit classrooms to share industry expectations and real life workplace experiences to the students.
