Chevron Phillips Chemical Recognizes Facilities for Outstanding Environmental Efforts

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (September 14, 2007) - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC (Chevron Phillips Chemical) has named its Kallo Compounding Plant in Kallo, Belgium, and joint venture Qatar Chemical Company Ltd. (Qatar Chemical Company) in Doha, Qatar,  as honored recipients of the 2007 President's Environmental Harmony Award for outstanding environmental stewardship efforts.

Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

"We are committed to reducing our environmental impact while continuing to provide top quality chemicals for consumer and industrial products," said Ray Wilcox, president and CEO. "We operate in 36 communities around the world, and we take our responsibility to these communities seriously," he said. "It is important that our employees, their children and our neighbors know that we hold ourselves to the highest standards of environmental performance."

Chevron Phillips Chemical established the President's Environmental Harmony Award in 2005 as a way to recognize facilities for exemplary environmental leadership. The award emphasizes the importance of efficiently using resources and reducing energy and waste, and it communicates to employees and the public that Chevron Phillips Chemical is committed to promoting environmental stewardship in all aspects of its business.

Qatar Chemical Company, located in Doha, Qatar, won the chemical manufacturing category for its 70 percent reduction in flaring events from 2005 to 2006, as well as for a marked reduction in energy, waste and wastewater use. Qatar Chemical Company also implemented waste recycling programs and received an environmental award by the 2006 Gulf Cooperation Council Environmental recognizing it as the best industrial establishment committed to environmental standards and practices.

The Kallo Compounding Plant in Kallo, Belgium, won the non-chemical manufacturing category for its efficient use of resources, including reductions in non-hazardous waste generation, electricity, water and fuel consumption. Kallo Compounding Plant also received recognition from the Kallo Chamber of Commerce for outstanding environmental achievements.

"Environmental stewardship is a key component of our operational excellence management system," said Greg Hanggi, vice president of Environment, Health and Safety. "These awards recognize the many ways our employees and facilities demonstrate their commitment to environmental performance."
