KINGWOOD, TEXAS (July 9, 2012)-- Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP's (Chevron Phillips Chemical) Kingwood Research and Technology Center recently donated more than 300 surplus technical books and periodicals to the Friends of the Library-Kingwood (FOLK) to sell in their used bookstore.
All proceeds from the books will benefit Kingwood's community library in the form of book purchases, specialty furnishings in children's and young adult areas, downloadable digital media, video games and equipment, DVD's, art and craft supplies, continuing education, and children's, young adult and adult program support.
The surplus books came from a technical library which is being converted to more usable office space since most technical literature is now available online.
"After we closed our technical library at the Research and Technology Center, we decided it was best to donate these great learning tools to help support the library and ultimately the community," said Dennis Holtermann, vice president of research and technology for Chevron Phillips Chemical. "Books can expand knowledge, enhance thinking capability and encourage new ideas and concepts, which are values we hold dear at Chevron Phillips Chemical."
