Chevron Phillips Chemical Adds New Blow Molding Machine

Chevron Phillips Chemical Offers Customers Commercial Advantage
with New Equipment in Plastics Technical Center

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (September 9, 2008) - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) recently added new processing equipment to its Plastics Technical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to provide customers with additional technical service opportunities. The new machine, a Techne System 10000-S900 long stroke continuous extrusion shuttle blow molding machine brings the total number of blow molding machines at the Plastics Technical Center to ten.

"Our new blow molding machine builds on the strength of our technical support and adds to the value package we offer our customers," said Shaun Moore, polyethylene product manager for blow molding. "We will now be able to test new resins in our own in-house commercial environment and be better able to define how customers will benefit from using Chevron Phillips Chemical's products versus other available material."

Featuring a multi-cavity extrusion head capable of three layer co-extrusion, a six cavity mold to produce a 52-ounce handled bottle, and the ability to simulate commercial production rates, the new machine offers a realistic testing ground for customers manufacturing dairy bottles, household industrial containers, recreational products, drums, and other large parts.

"This is an important addition to our Plastics Technical Center," said John Rathman, principal engineer for Chevron Phillips Chemical in Bartlesville. "With many U.S. manufacturers utilizing wheel machines, a huge benefit to our installation of the long stroke shuttle machine is that our U.S. customers can see alternate processing techniques and have the opportunity to better understand their worldwide competition," he said. "For our customers already familiar with the long stroke shuttle, we serve as a testing ground for new resins and molds to minimize the need to curtail commercial production."
