K-Resin SBC KR05 Makes a Clear Difference in Food Packaging at InnoWare

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (September 29, 2009) - As a leading manufacturer of distinctive, high quality foodservice containers and paper tableware items, InnoWare, Inc. takes pride in producing top notch products that meet their customers' needs.  One way that InnoWare meets that goal is by using K-Resin® styrene butadiene copolymer (SBC) grade KR05 from Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) in blends with crystal polystyrene.

K-Resin® SBC extrusion grades make a clear difference in InnoWare's rigid food packaging applications. Better clarity and higher gloss provide maximum impact for InnoWare's polystyrene products and make KR05 an exceptional choice for their food packaging applications.

Blending KR05 with increasing levels of crystal polystyrene provides incremental cost savings and significantly increases the stiffness of the package with a minimal effect on the clarity. KR05 has been successfully blended with up to 50 percent crystal polystyrene while maintaining its broad process window and exceptional clarity. This is important for takeout containers and similar applications where showcasing the food items being purchased is as important as the strength of the container for spill-free transport.

"Providing an innovative package in this marketplace is crucial to our customers' success in differentiating their product from the competition," said Cliff Pettey, Chevron Phillips Chemical's director of global market and applications development for K-Resin® SBC. "The clarity and gloss provided by blends of KR05 and crystal polystyrene really make our customers' products stand out on the shelf and in the marketplace."

According to InnoWare's Marketing Manager, Hanna Sjolund, "Our customers want attractive, well-designed products that set their food items apart from their competitors'.  From a practical standpoint, they need packaging that is easy to handle and durable.  Strength and rigidity are especially important because foodservice, take-out, and deli displays can be tough on packaging."

K-Resin® SBC is used in many of InnoWare's upscale hinged and two-piece containers. K-Resin® SBC provides high gloss to the black bases while offering toughness and a broad thermoforming process window to the clear lids. The InnoWare containers' attractive appearance, combined with unbeatable features such as secure closures, reliable hinges, and superior stacking strength, provide a complete packaging solution.

"We rely on K-Resin® SBC to give our polystyrene products the clarity, gloss, and durability needed to meet our customers' expectations," concludes Sjolund.
