Mining Chemicals

The Mining Chemicals product line includes traditional and developmental sulfur based and hydrocarbon collectors, high purity solvent extraction diluents, depressant chemistry, proprietary extender oils, frothers and acid resistant coatings.  Our parent companies, Chevron and Conoco Phillips, have been involved in mining for years.  Chevron Phillips Chemical, LP. Specialty Chemicals Division has been supplying mining chemicals from the mid-40's and has several patents in this globally important industry.  Our Global Metallurigical Services office in Tucson Arizona (Marana) performs client specific testing on ores and chemical reagents to optimize recoveries.  Their current developmental work targets new sulfur based collectors, hydrocarbon/sulfur collector blends and novel depressants.  Hydrocarbon and flotation testing is performed daily by our chemist and technician.

Sulfur based collectors include MC37, CO-100 and CO-200, all lower odor mercaptans with high affinities for sulfides and platinum group metals.  Our MC 37, a blend of a propriatary thiol and Molyflo® collector oil, shows 1-2% recovery increases in Cu/Mo along with iron.  On-site testing will occur very soon.  We are also currently lab testing several developmental collectors based on our sulfur manufacturing expertise, and have several new collectors in "theoretical design" phase for near future testing.  We are designing collector systems to maximize copper and molybdneum recoveries and to minimize iron.

Our solvent extraction diluents vary from lighter isoalkane composition to treated diluents for fewer extraction interactions to high flash diluents designed for rapid phase break, low evaporative losses and longevity.  Our SX-7, 12 and 80 are workhorses in the SX plants throughout the Americas.

The D-8 deperssant is highly effecient at depressing most sulfides during molybdenum collection, ensuring higher recoveries.  We currently have two depressants in developmental testing, with the goal of the reduction in NaSH and Nokes hazardous chemical use within the mines.

Philflo® is our primary extender oil for potash and phosphate coarse grind recovery. We are currently testing several new blends with the objective of increasing recoveries, reducing tails waste and ensuring consistant quality.

We manufacture our products in the USA and ship globally via the Port of Houston, truck shipments via terminals in Texas and Arizona and have blend facilities close to our plant in N. Texas.

  Orfom® Frothers
Products MSDS TDS Application
ORFOM® F2 Frother Frother produces a medium depth, fast-breaking froth, where a relatively weak, non-persistent froth is desired.  May be of benefit where MIBC is used and a less brittle froth is desired.
ORFOM® F8 Frother Stronger, medium depth, fast breaking proprietary alcohol frother.  Non-persistent froth.
  Orfom® Tannins
Products MSDS TDS Application
ORFOM® Grade 3 Tannin Zinc leach modifier to reduce sulfur disposition on sphalerite, and subsequent higher recoveries.  Grade 3 Tannin also inhibits the disposition of sulfur in autoclaves and flash cooling towers.  In high bentonite ores, Grade 3 Tannin can significantly reduce the pulp viscosity due to clay minerals.  It benefits fluorite flotation and depresses calcite.
ORFOM® Grade 2 Tannin ORFOM® Grade 2 tannin is a modified, cold water soluble, quebracho tannin used commercially in the hydro metallurgical leaching of zinc to reduce the deposition of sulfur on the remaining sphalerite.  This reduction eads to improved leaching and higher recovery.  The tannin also inhibits the deposition of sulfur in the autoclave and flash-cooling tower. Some ores contain high levels of bentonitic clays leading to high pulp viscosity and/or reduced pulp density.  Orfom® Grade 2 tannin is a very effective thinner and can significantly reduce the pulp viscosity due to clay minerals.  Orfom® Grade 2 tannin is beneficial in fluorite (fluorspar) flotation.  It is used to depress calcite flotation leading to improved concentrate grades.
