Toughened PPS Grades Introduced for Demanding Environments

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (April 25, 2006) – Expanding upon the company’s newest line of elastomer-modified polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) alloys, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP’s (Chevron Phillips Chemical) developed two new Xtel® PPS alloy elastomer grades. Xtel® XE4050 PPS and XE5030 PPS are designed to enhance the impact strength of our PPS materials while maintaining PPS chemical resistance at elevated temperatures.

With improved elongation and impact properties, Xtel® XE4050 PPS and Xtel® XE5030 PPS also provide improved thermal cycling capability when compared to regular PPS materials.  These materials maintain PPS chemical resistance properties in most coolant and fuel system environments, typically making them a better alternative versus PPA and other nylon materials.  In addition, Xtel® XE4050 PPS and Xtel® XE5030 PPS alloys are inherently flame retardant and will attain the UL 94 rating of V-0.  They achieve this without the use of halogenated flame-retardants which may classify them as a “green material”.

Xtel® XE alloys’ toughness and ability to meet stringent dimensional stability needs allow them to be used in many applications,” said Jay Blackburn, Ryton® PPS Manager of Business Development and Technology. “We have extended the performance of our PPS with the addition of an elastomeric polymer to create a PPS alloy with higher ductility.”

Xtel® PPS alloys are produced worldwide by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC and its affiliates. For more information about Xtel® PPS, call 1-877-RYTON66 or email Ryton@cpchem.com.
