THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (November 9, 2006) – Ray Wilcox, president and CEO of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) was recently honored by the University of Michigan as a recipient of an Alumni Society Merit Award from the department of Mechanical Engineering. The award recognizes alumni who have achieved significant accomplishments in their professional lives and personify the College of Engineering’s tradition of excellence. Wilcox was one of 15 selected from over 60,000 living graduates of the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering.
“These individuals represent the ideal of Michigan Engineering,” said David C. Munson, Jr., University of Michigan’s dean of engineering. “The range of their accomplishments is broad; the quality of their intellectual and business breakthroughs has been substantial; and the impact on their organizations, the nation and the world has been tremendous.”
Wilcox graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He joined Chevron in 1968 as a design and construction engineer in Los Angeles and held positions of increasing responsibility around the world, including vice president of Chevron Corporation and president of Chevron North America Exploration and Production Company. In April 2006, he became president and CEO of Chevron Phillips Chemical.
Wilcox is a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, Spindletop Charities, and the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering National Advisory Committee.
