- Driscal® D Polymer
Driscal® D Polymer
Driscal® polymer and Driscal® D polymer are synthetic polymers specifically designed for high-temperature and/or high-salinity environments. Driscal® polymer is an emulsion polymer (polymer activity: 32%). Driscal® D polymer is a dry powder. Special Information

Driscal® D polymer may be used in environmentally sensitive areas. It has an LC50 value of 949,000 ppm at a 5.3 ppb concentration in Generic Mud #7. Driscal® polymer emulsion specific gravity is 1.032. There are 2.75 pounds of Driscal® polymer  dry in each gallon of Driscal® polymer emulsion.

Advantages
  • Controls water loss in all environments
  • Reduces differential sticking tendencies
  • Can be used in harsh environments such as North Dakota and other hard brines
  • Temperature stable to 475ºF (246ºC)
  • Can improve thermal stability of whole mud system
  • Non-fermenting
  • Helps maintain the integrity of cuttings
  • Reduces abrasion of hematite weighting agents
  • Inhibits shale
  • Increases the effectiveness of solids-control equipment
  • Calcium tolerance in excess of 100,000 ppm
Application Material Needed
  Driscal® Polymer Driscal® D Polymer

Cost

Driscal® polymers are high-performance, hostile environment polymers which are cost-effective against other synthetic additives in these challenging fluid environments. Total well cost for interval drilled is usually lower.

Mud Types

Water-based muds with extreme conditions of temperature, salinity and hardness

Mixing Requirements

Driscal® polymer: Transfer directly from the drum to mud pit with an approved electric pump or add through the mud hopper.

Driscal® D polymer: Mix slowly through conventional jet hopper.

Handling

For specific instructions on handling, refer to the MSDS.

Packaging

Driscal® Polymer: 55-gallon drum (net weight 415 lb)

Driscal® D Polymer: 25-lb multiwall sacks
