Q: Are you Chevron or Phillips?
A: In July 2000, our owner organizations, Chevron Corporation and Phillips Petroleum Company (now ConocoPhillips), combined its petrochemical businesses to form what is now known as Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC. We are a separate company with headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas that employs approximately 5,150 employees and has assets totaling approximately $7 billion.

A: Both. Chevron Phillips Chemical is a global leader in the production of olefins and polyolefins. We are also a principal supplier of aromatics, alpha olefins, styrenics, specialty chemicals, polyethylene pipe, and proprietary plastics.

Q: How many different business lines do you have?
A: Our mix of petrochemical and plastics business is segmented intro three divisions – Olefins and Polyolefins, Aromatics and Styrenics, and Specialty Products. The chemical products produced by each of these divisions are essential to manufacturing more than 70,000 consumer and industrial products.

A: Chevron Phillips Chemical is committed to meaningful community involvement and focuses our primary outreach efforts on programs that support science, the environment, and math. Since our employees live and work in the same community as our facilities, each facility tailors its community outreach to the needs of their location. Our outreach programs include, but are not limited to, both cash contributions and volunteer opportunities that span the gamut from building houses for our less fortunate neighbors; supporting the development of nature gardens for the enjoyment of our communities; sponsoring youth summer camps that encourage interest in math and science; and, even hosting recreational fishing expeditions on our own property.

Q: What are your products used for?
A:
- Products in the olefins and polyolefins family are used in plasticizers, synthetic motor oils, paraffin wax, lubricants, antifreeze, paint, soap, and household detergents. Additionally, olefins are used to produce high-density, low-density, and linear low-density polyethylene resins for plastic pipe, merchandise bags, milk jugs, surgical gloves, food packaging, and automobile gas tanks.
- Aromatics and styrenics are used in the manufacture of nylon, housewares, construction materials, carpet, polyester, plastic utensils, and DVDs, CDs and videocassettes.
- Specialty chemicals are used in various applications, including electronics, automobiles, appliances, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, extractive chemicals are used in drilling muds for oil and gas wells, copper mining, and in mineral processing as solvents and floatation agents.

A: At Chevron Phillips Chemical, safety will always be our top priority. We have a “Vision of Zero,” meaning a target of zero injuries and zero major incidents. In fact, our safety record has improved by more than 50 percent since the company’s inception in 2000, thus affording us “elite” status among our industry’s top safety performers. Today, Chevron Phillips Chemical is well on its way to becoming the safest company in the petrochemicals industry.

Q: What is Loop Slurry technology?
A: Loop Slurry technology is Chevron Phillips Chemical’s proprietary process for high-density polyethylene production. The technology is applicable to various densities of polyethylene and adaptable to advanced catalysts including metallocenes and dual-site catalyst systems for single-reactor bimodal resins. The loop slurry process technology delivers high-reactor throughput while minimizing capital and operating costs. It is utilized internationally by numerous commercial reactor facilities, and as a result, is one of the most widely licensed processes in the world.

A: Aromax® benzene production technology is Chevron Phillips Chemical’s proprietary process for the on-purpose production of benzene. Our process is the lowest cost process in the industry.

Our scientists were responsible for inventing several modern plastics, and we have the patents and proprietary technology to prove it. Even now, at our six research and technology centers around the world, more than 330 of our scientists, researchers and engineers make advances and refinements daily. Company-wide, we are finding better ways to reduce manufacturing costs, streamline operations, and develop new technologies that improve the petrochemicals and plastics that are essential to our quality of life.

Q: What is your company’s commitment to environmental stewardship?
A: Chevron Phillips Chemical has invested over $100 million dollars to reduce ozone-forming nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions by 75 percent as a whole at our facilities in the eight county area surrounding Houston. We pride ourselves on our proactive environmental initiatives. For example, numerous waste byproducts are now being regenerated and re-utilized in the manufacture of new products. Chevron Phillips Chemical actively participates in cogeneration programs.

Q: Is Performance Pipe owned by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company?
A: Yes. Performance Pipe, producing Driscoplex® piping products is a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP. Performance Pipe is the largest manufacturer of high-density polyethylene pipe (HDPE) in North America and the world. Our HDPE pressure pipe is sold regularly to over 400 customers and serves as an integral component in mining, irrigation, electrical, telecommunications, petroleum, natural gas, and numerous other industrial applications.
