THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (May 20, 2010) – Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) announced today that Phillips Sumika Polypropylene Company (Phillips Sumika) has been named Quality Supplier of the Year for 2009 by Rexam, the world’s second largest consumer packaging company.
“Our goal as an organization is to provide quality products and satisfy customers,” said Frank Zakrzewski, Sales Director for Phillips Sumika. “To receive this award from our largest polypropylene customer is a testament to our entire team’s dedication and success.”
As a Phillips Sumika customer for more than 20 years, Rexam is a leading global beverage can maker and one of the global leaders in rigid plastic packaging. 2009 marked the first year of Rexam’s Supplier of the Year awards, which were presented in four categories: New Technology, Logistics and Service, Commercial, and Supplier Quality.
Phillips Sumika was awarded the Supplier Quality award for their high audit score (96.1%) and their timely and effective responsiveness when Rexam experienced a nonconformance issue in their supply process. Phillips Sumika’s willingness to ensure their client receives the best possible service and product made them the best candidate for the award.
“We have had very few resin nonconformance issues during the year, but when a situation did arise, Phillips Sumika was very quick to respond,” Steve Pautler, Manager of Resins and Colorants for Americas Rexam Plastic Packaging, said. “Phillips Sumika did not focus immediate attention on who was responsible for the issue, but just helped assure that the plant kept running for us and our customers. Because of this, Phillips Sumika was the best candidate for the Quality award.”
Phillips Sumika provides Rexam with polypropylene pellets with which to make caps and closures for many consumer products, including prescription drugs, beverages, and health and beauty care products.
The award was presented earlier this year at Rexam’s U.S. headquarters in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
