    Located 46 miles due north of downtown Houston off Interstate 45, the Drilling Specialties plant has been in operation since 1984. 
     
    The Alamo Plant began production of Soltex® Additive in batch operations in 1978, and was then owned by Chromalloy.  The facility was sold five years later, to Drilling Specialties Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Phillips Petroleum Company.  In 1987 the plant converted to continuous operations, and as of 2007, production has increased more than 85%. The Alamo plant is an ISO 9001:2000 certified facility.

    Products Produced

    Soltex® Drilling Mud Additive - Additives used in water, oil and synthetic-based drilling fluids to stabilize shale formations and increasing hole lubricity during oil and gas well drilling. It is also a high temperature/high pressure fluid loss control additive for water-based muds.
    Liquid Soltex® Drilling Mud Additive - Additives used in water, oil and synthetic-based drilling fluids to stabilize shale formations and increasing hole lubricity during oil and gas well drilling. It is also a high temperature/high pressure fluid loss control additive for water-based muds.
