Dave Smith

Senior Vice President, Corporate Planning & Technology

D. S. (Dave) Smith is senior vice president of Corporate Planning and Technology. In this role, he oversees Research & Technology, Information Technology and Corporate Planning & Development.

Previously he served as senior vice president, Petrochemicals; vice president, Olefins & NGL and vice president, Polyethylene. He also served as general manager, Normal Alpha Olefins / Poly Alpha Olefins (NAO/PAO).

Smith began his career in 1979 as a research engineer at Chevron Research Company in the process research division focusing on synthetic fuels and heavy oil hydroprocessing. In 1985, he moved to Chevron USA and served in process engineering and operations roles. Smith later joined Chevron Chemical in 1988 as the operations representative and start-up manager for the St. James styrene expansion project. While working at Chevron, he held several management roles including styrene technical manager, olefins domestic product manager, supply chain implementation manager and NAO business manager.

Smith was later promoted to business manager, BTX-fiber intermediates; senior international business development manager and served as the primary interface with Chevron Overseas Petroleum Inc. on gas related projects before eventually joining Chevron Phillips Chemical.

Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1978 and Master of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1979. He holds eight U.S and multiple foreign patents in the field of heavy oil hydroprocessing.
