Normal dodecyl mercaptan (n-dodecyl mercaptan, 1-dodecanethiol, lauryl mercaptan, NDDM, CAS # 112-55-0) is used in many diverse applications. In free-radical polymerization systems, it acts as a chain transfer agent to control molecular weight. A variety of antioxidants and stabilizers are produced from it as a chemical intermediate.
