Sulfur-containing products are used in the metalworking (cutting, grinding, sawing, etc.) and steel rolling and wire drawing industries. The sulfur reacts with the metal under extreme conditions of heat and pressure to form a metal sulfide layer. This metal sulfide layer allows for slip or movement to reduce friction and metal damage.

Many sulfur-based acids and solvents find use in metal processing industries. The binding power of sulfur to specific metals assists in separations and dissolution.
